If you are visiting this site for the first time, are just discovering Dragon Ball, or are interested in doing so, but don't know where to start, you've come to the right place! What follows is a brief synopsis of the Dragon Ball universe, and an overview of its origins. Once you've got the general idea, head on over to the Info section on the left when you're ready to take a deeper dive into the wonderful world of Dragon Ball!

The Story
The Dragon Ball Universe, at it's core, follows the story of the main protagonist Son Goku. His story starts with us learning about how he was born on another planet, a member of a race of warriors, known as the Saiyans. Given the name Kakarot from birth, he was sent to Earth as an infant by the Saiyans with the task set on him to eventually conquer the planet for his people. However, after suffering a crash landing, he is found and raised by an Earthling, Son Gohan. Having no knowledge of his Saiyan roots or the mission he was assigned as a baby, Goku grows up as a human on Earth, and eventually grows up to be it's most powerful protector. The different series follow Goku as he goes from a young boy, to a man, eventually a father and grandfather, and spends his life protecting the Earth, and his loved ones. A fantastic mixture of action, drama, and comedy accompany the story of our beloved hero.
As for the titular objects themselves, the Dragon Balls are a set of seven mythical stones, that were bestowed upon the Earth by it's Ancient Guardian. When brought together, the Dragon Balls allow for the summoning of an all powerful dragon named Shenron. The all powerful Shenron grants the summoner any single wish they choose, with almost no limits. A major driving plot factor finds Goku and his companions threatened by evil doers who seek to come to Earth, find the Dragon Balls, and use them for their malevolent purposes.

Origins
Dragon Ball started as a Manga(Japanese comic book) series in Japan, getting it's start in the "Weekly Shōnen Jump" anthology magazine. The original run went from 1984-1995. Its popularity as a Manga series led to the creation of the original Dragon Ball anime series, as well as it's sequel series, Dragon Ball Z, by the TOEI Animation company. This would eventually lead to more Anime series being created based around Goku and the Dragon Ball Universe. Having been immensely popular in it's native Japan, as well as reaching popularity around the world including the U.S., Dragon Ball has been featured in various forms of media, with numerous entries in all forms.
